GAMA-1 Technologies, LLC seeks a highly skilled remote Cloud Architect III - Data to serve as the IT Subject Matter Expert II – Data Architect / Data Science Lead, responsible for architecting, developing, and supporting cloud-native data management, analytics, and machine learning solutions within Amazon Web Services (AWS) in support of scientific and geospatial data processing capabilities.
This remote role is primarily responsible for owning data architecture and data science–focused user stories, serving as the technical lead for API-driven dataset hosting, data processing pipelines, and machine learning workflows. The Cloud Architect III – Data will collaborate closely with data scientists, program managers, cloud engineers, security personnel, and enterprise architects to refine cloud development use cases and deliver secure, scalable, and production-ready solutions in an Agile development environment.

  • Architect, develop, and support data-driven, cloud-native solutions in Amazon Web Services (AWS) to enable scientific data ingestion, processing, analytics, and machine learning.
  • Design and implement API-driven data management architectures to support dataset hosting and integration with internal and external systems.
  • Serve as the IT Subject Matter Expert II – Data Architect / Data Science Lead, owning data-centric user stories and acting as the primary authority for scientific and geospatial data processing solutions.
  • Develop and operationalize machine learning pipelines to achieve scientific and business objectives defined in Agile user stories.
  • Architect and maintain scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud data platforms, including data lakes, data mesh implementations, and hybrid storage environments
  • Develop solutions using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies (Terraform preferred) to meet system, security, and compliance requirements.
  • Leverage AWS native services and NOAA-approved tools to automate infrastructure provisioning, deployment, and configuration
  •  Actively participate in an Agile software development team, contributing to sprint planning, backlog refinement, demos, and retrospectives.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, program managers, cloud engineers, and security stakeholders to refine cloud development use cases and data-centric user stories.
  • Produce solution design blueprints, architecture diagrams, and technical reference documentation for each assigned project.
  • Ensure all solutions and documentation complete the OAR Change Control process, addressing feedback from the IT Security Officer, System Owner, and Enterprise Architect prior to production deployment.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and knowledge sharing while supporting evolving development and analysis needs as required by the Agile workload.

Information Security and Confidentiality Obligations
  • Ensure adherence to organizational information security policies and procedures; actively participate in mandatory security awareness training; and manage confidential and sensitive information in accordance with company protocols and data protection standards.
 
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 4-8 years of experience in big data storage, data infrastructure, or enterprise storage environments.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, including designing and managing cloud-based storage solutions.
  • Experience designing end-to-end cloud data pipelines and API-driven data platforms for analytics or machine learning.
  • Proven track record of successfully planning and executing complex migration projects from on-premises storage to cloud storage services.
  • Deep understanding of storage architecture principles, including block, file, and object storage, and experience designing solutions for high-performance and high-availability.
  • Knowledge of storage performance tuning, capacity planning, and high availability.
  • Experience working in federal government or regulated environments.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to support technical and non-technical stakeholders.
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional) - AWS Certified Storage - Specialty certification or equivalent.
  • Experience with container storage solutions (e.g., Kubernetes Persistent Volumes, CSI drivers).
  • Experience designing and implementing API-driven data platforms and analytics pipelines.
  • Experience with hybrid cloud or cloud migration initiatives.
  • Experience with scientific or research data workflows is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps and Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Prior experience supporting federal contracts.
  • Experience with other public cloud providers' storage solutions (Azure Blob Storage, Google Cloud Storage).
  • Familiarity with serverless technologies (AWS Lambda) for data processing and storage events.
