Summary  
This remote Scientific Programmer II works closely with interdisciplinary teams, including researchers and engineers, to design and implement solutions that address complex scientific problems. The Scientific Programmer II ensures reliable operation of the client systems that decode the data, make images, and perform scientific analyses to make higher level products for our customer. The effort also includes data assimilation and forecast operations, algorithm and workflow development, data processing, scientific analysis, data validation, data management, and documentation support. The Scientific Programmer II should be capable of translating the science into robust, custom software solutions that address numerical problems.

  • Provide scientific programming support for complex systems
  • Develop automation code for CI/CD tools
  • Work closely with cloud architects, developers, and engineers to ensure seamless deployment and integration of applications 
  • Create and maintain robust documentation to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration
  • Research, design, deploy, provision, and document new technologies implemented within the environment
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues occurring along the CI/CD pipeline to maintain smoother operation
  • Research, design, deploy, provision, and document new technologies implemented within the environment 
  • Implement modern systems, applications and underlying technology stacks 
  • Participate with the Information Security partners and implement cybersecurity updates to the system

Basic Qualifications
  • BS/BA in Computer Science, a Technical Field, or other related disciplines, or equivalent work experience  
  • 4 or more years of experience migrating scientific applications from on-premises systems to a Cloud environment  
  • Experience in programming languages such as React, YAML, JSON, OpenPBS, Perl, Python, C++, Java, or Fortran, and experience in scientific computing applications
  • Proficiency in scientific computing libraries and tools (e.g., NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib, R, MATLAB, TensorFlow)
  • Strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and computational methods used in scientific research and simulations
  • Experience with high-performance computing (HPC), parallel computing, and cloud-based computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud) is preferred
  • Solid experience with data processing, machine learning, and statistical analysis methods in a scientific context
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git, GitHub, Bitbucket) and collaborative development environments
  • Demonstrated experience working in an agile/scrum team
  • Experience with code-defined Infrastructure, configuration management tools, as OpenShift, ECR, EKS, object store (S3), and CI/CD 
  • Experience and understanding of large-scale infrastructure deployments in enterprise-wide environments leveraging current principles and utilizing a CI/CD pipeline  
  • Excellent written, verbal, and analytical skills 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building and leveraging tools for running automated CI/CD jobs to execute, build, test, and deploy tasks on separate machines

Work authorization/security clearance requirements
  • Ability to obtain a government security clearance

Physical Demands
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organizations and client facilities

Work Environment

  • Work is normally performed in a remote environment

Proficiency Requirement: 
The new hire is expected to demonstrate proficiency in all essential job functions, tools, and processes related to this position within the first 90 days of employment. This includes acquiring a thorough understanding of job-specific responsibilities, systems, and workflows as outlined during onboarding and training. Failure to meet this requirement may result in additional training, reassessment, or other actions as deemed necessary by management.

 

The base salary range for this position is $99,888.00 to $140,807.00.

This base salary range represents a general guideline. An individual’s base salary within that range is determined based on a variety of factors, including (without limitation) the scope, complexities, and responsibilities of the position, the government contract to which the position is assigned, geographic location, market conditions, and the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and skills.
