Data Manager II - Scientific
GAMA-1 Technologies, LLC seeks an experienced Data Manager II - Scientific to lead the design, implementation, and governance of scientific data and metadata frameworks in a remote environment. The Scientific Data Manager II will collaborate with data producers, scientists, software engineers, and data curators to ensure data are accurate, well-documented, and accessible throughout their lifecycle. This role focuses on establishing standards that align with FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles and supports metadata integration across repositories, portals, and cloud platforms. The ideal candidate combines deep technical knowledge of metadata and data systems with strong communication skills and a commitment to data integrity, accessibility, and long-term sustainability.

- Design and implement robust metadata frameworks aligned with agency and community standards (e.g., ISO 19115, FGDC, Dublin Core, Schema.org).
- Collaborate with data producers, scientists, software engineers, and data curators to ensure accurate and comprehensive metadata capture throughout the data lifecycle.
- Develop and maintain metadata pipelines and tools for ingesting, validating, and transforming metadata.
- Oversee the organization, cataloging, and documentation of large and complex datasets to support FAIR data principles.
- Manage the integration of metadata into data repositories, data portals, and cloud platforms.
- Work with IT and cloud infrastructure teams to ensure metadata is tightly integrated with data storage, access, and analysis workflows.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on data and metadata management best practices and contribute to the development of organizational policy or guidance.
- Support audits, compliance requirements, and reporting related to data management activities.

Information Security and Confidentiality Obligations

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in information science, Data Science, Computer Science, Geoinformatics, or a related field.
- 2–4 years of experience in data or metadata management within a scientific, research, or organizational environment.
- Strong knowledge of metadata standards, data modeling, and controlled vocabularies or ontologies.
- Proficiency with data cataloging and metadata management tools (e.g., CKAN, DataVerse, GeoNetwork).
- Experience working with large-scale or distributed datasets (e.g., environmental, genomics, or sensor data).
- Familiarity with cloud-based data storage and processing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Understanding of data governance and compliance policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- A master’s degree is preferred.
- Familiarity with scientific data formats.
- Scripting language experience (Python preferred).
- Experience with Software Configuration Management (SCM) tools.
- Understanding of Agile life cycle processes and DevOps methodologies, including CI/CD concepts.
Work authorization/security clearance requirements
- Ability to obtain a security clearance.
Work environment
- This work is normally completed in a remote environment.
Physical demands
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organizations and client facilities.
