Summary  
We are seeking a talented and highly motivated Web Developer II (front-end) to lead the design, development, and migration of high-impact websites. As a key member of our team, you will take ownership of building and enhancing websites with a focus on improving customer experience, usability, and performance. You will collaborate closely with stakeholders and multiple IT teams to ensure the seamless migration of local historical websites to the cloud, primarily using WordPress. Your role will focus on implementing best practices for UX/UI design, translating complex scientific information for a wide audience, and enhancing website performance through cloud migration strategies. This is primarily a telework position, with occasional on-site presence required as needed.

  • Website Development: Lead the design, development, and maintenance of high-quality, reusable, and efficient websites using WordPress, ensuring compliance with Section 508 accessibility standards
  • Code Quality & Automation: Write clean, efficient code and maintain strong organizational practices, ensuring excellent code documentation and automated processes
  • Standardized Web Design: Build websites using modern HTML/CSS best practices, ensuring responsive, cross-browser compatibility and smooth user experiences
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work alongside web designers, stakeholders, and cross-functional IT teams to define project requirements, ensure timely delivery, and achieve project goals
  • Security & Compliance: Collaborate with IT security teams and communication professionals to meet annual web certifications and implement necessary security updates and best practices
  • Content Management & Communication: Provide ongoing communication with stakeholders to define content, establish timelines, and ensure expectations align with deliverables
  • Consultation & Feature Integration: Work with stakeholders and communication teams to determine the scope of content and integrate new features while ensuring compliance with branding guidelines for public-facing websites
  • Performance & User Experience: Utilize Human-Centered Design (HCD) principles to continuously improve user experience. Leverage analytics and performance metrics to optimize website functionality
  • Content Management Training: Offer training and support to the customer’s staff on website content management processes and tools as needed
  • Documentation & Research: Stay informed on emerging software tools, maintain comprehensive documentation for all software used, and continuously improve site features
  • Performance Reporting: Regularly provide performance analytics reports, identify usability issues, and make actionable recommendations for website improvements

Basic Qualifications
  • 4 years of experience in web development with a focus on WordPress
  • 3 years of experience directly supporting stakeholders through requirements gathering, design, and coordination
  • Proficiency with WordPress, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP
  • Experience with cloud technologies and migrating websites from local environments to cloud platforms
  • Familiarity with web performance tools, including Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Google Pagespeed Insights, Bing Search, and Google Tag Manager
  • Strong graphic design skills with proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite

Preferred Qualifications 
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Physical, Biological, Chemical, or Earth System Sciences or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Familiarity with the customer’s strategic goals
  • Proficient in GitHub for version control
  • Experience with Visual Studio 2016
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server 2016, with experience in older versions, also considered

Work authorization/security clearance requirements
Ability to obtain a government security clearance

Physical Demands
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organizations and client facilities

The base salary range for this position is $96,373 to $135,851.

This base salary range represents a general guideline. An individual’s base salary within that range is determined based on a variety of factors, including (without limitation) the scope, complexities, and responsibilities of the position, the government contract to which the position is assigned, geographic location, market conditions, and the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and skills.
