Summary  
Seeking a remote Systems Engineer II to join our team. The candidate will help drive GAMA-1's efforts to support of its customers strategic initiatives. These strategic initiatives intend to increase the bureau's IT efficiency, improve IT delivery, and reduce costs.  The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience administering cloud and networking technologies.

Essential functions

  • Leads system implementation, integration, maintenance, and operations, including investigating complex technical problems
  • Provide System Engineering and Administration for development, test, and production environments
  • Responsible for managing computational resources including resource allocation, performance measurement, failover operations, reporting operations, maintenance, and resource planning, providing System Administration/Engineering support for an enterprise-level and development system comprised of Linux platforms, and supporting the upgrade of hardware and software
  • Act as the technical advisor to the Project Manager and coordinate ongoing developing efforts between the stakeholders and the IT resources providing a course of action and corrective action plan when issues arise
  • Capture the stakeholders' requirements and ensure that the system is built and functions in accordance with system specifications
  • Ensure systems are kept in the required configuration profile, including, but not limited to patch maintenance, changes required by the evolution of production environments, and updating software and software configurations
  • Recommend and execute modifications to systems to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance
  • Develop and maintain training materials and systems documentation

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 2-4 years of relevant and progressive work experience
  • Extensive experience with open-source tools used for automating software deployment, scaling, and management
  • Thorough knowledge of network protocols
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with technical and non-technical people and the ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships among all levels of an organization
  • Strong understanding of the organizational goals and objectives
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Good interpersonal skills with strong customer service orientation
  • Strong proficiency with AWS services such as EC2, S3, EFS, IAM, VPC, SSM, KMS, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and Route53
  • Hands-on experience designing and implementing network architecture within cloud environments, including VPC routing, subnetting, and connectivity
  • Deep understanding of Transit Gateways (TGW), VPNs, VPC Peering, and BGP for routing in AWS and across multi-cloud networks
  • Experience configuring and managing security best practices for networking including IAM, security groups, NACLs, ingress/egress traffic, firewalls, and DDoS protection
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement distributed monitoring and alerting solutions in AWS
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform for managing networking and security infrastructure
  • Experience deploying site-to-site connectivity between AWS, Azure, and GCP environments
  • Strong scripting skills in Bash and Python for automating infrastructure management tasks
  • Experience designing internet access solutions for private web applications using IaC
  • Experience deploying Amazon Workspaces and integrating MFA (FreeRADIUS)
  • Ability to align infrastructure solutions with operational requirements, business objectives, security standards, and regulatory compliance
Preferred Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience managing a multi-cloud and hybrid networking environment
  • Experience with Azure and GCP networking services (e.g., Azure VNet, GCP VPC)
  • Experience with Kubernetes (EKS), HashiCorp Nomad, and containerization technologies
  • Familiarity with AWS Landing Zone Accelerator (LZA)
  • Windows automation and management experience using Active Directory, PowerShell, Ansible, and AWS Systems Manager
  • Understanding of DevOps and CI/CD processes, including GitOps workflows
  • Experience with GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or AWS CodePipeline
  • Knowledge of advanced AWS security and monitoring tools such as AWS Network Firewall, GuardDuty, and Detective
  • Strong grasp of network security models, including Zero Trust, IAM policies, role-based access control, and encryption in transit

Work authorization/security clearance requirements
  • Ability to obtain a government security clearance

Proficiency Requirement:
The employee is expected to demonstrate proficiency in all essential job functions, tools, and processes related to this position within the first 90 days of employment. This includes acquiring a thorough understanding of job-specific responsibilities, systems, and workflows as outlined during onboarding and training. Failure to meet this requirement may result in additional training, reassessment, or other actions as deemed necessary by management.

The base salary range for this position is: $104,473-$147,269

This base salary range represents a general guideline.  An individual’s base salary within that range is determined based on a variety of factors, including (without limitation) the scope, complexities, and responsibilities of the position, the government contract to which the position is assigned, geographic location, market conditions, and the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and skills.
